Restorative Root Canals

At Pine Belt Dental PLLC & Dr. John Guillot, we perform many root canal procedures for those in need. A root canal is a procedure that removes diseased pulp from the central part of the tooth, reshapes the canal, and replaces it with a specialized sealing filler material.

A cavity is the result of superficial decay of the enamel of the tooth. Left long enough, this decay can burrow deeper into the tooth, causing extensive structural damage. When the damage goes beyond what can be treated with a filling, dentists can perform a root canal (or endodontics), preserving the tooth shell, thereby saving a tooth that in the past would have been pulled.

The procedure occurs as follows:

  • A dental dam is used to isolate the tooth
  • The tooth is opened to allow for removal of infected or dead dental pulp
  • The tooth is comprehensively cleaned, including any cracks and canals
  • With special tools, the doctor reshapes the canals
  • The tooth is filled again with cutting-edge biocompatible filling material
  • A temporary covering is used to cover the access opening
  • Patients MUST have the tooth permanently restored, usually with a crown

Advanced 3D Imaging for Dental Exams

A root canal/endodontics procedure is safe and effective when it starts with an accurate examination. We use the latest technology to examine your teeth before any root canal procedure is performed.

The I-Max Touch 3D Multi FOV System that we use is a tool used that identifies and analyzes complex cases of implantology, dental surgery that includes endodontics (among many other dental procedures). The 3D technology can capture detailed panoramic exams. The cephalometric option extends the capabilities from the Imax Touch/3D by acquiring x-rays from the skull and carpus. The 3D option allows us to obtain volumetric x-rays.
